Finding the right level
There are several possibilities for finding out your level in English.
- Go to our website at
http://www.sli.uni-freiburg.de/einstufungstests-en
where you will find descriptors according to the Common European
Framework (A1 ...C2). These correspond to the entry levels for our
courses.
- Phone or come and see me in my office hour for advice. (SLI, Universitätsstr 5, Second Floor)
- Check out the level of the New Headway books (Advanced/C1, Upper-intermediate/B2, Intermediate/B1/B2, etc.), which are on display at most academic bookshops.

If you had a reasonable pass in the 10th grade English in a German Gymnasium, your English level should be around B1 (ready to start upper-intermediate). A student with Abitur English should be at B2 (ready to refresh your upper-intermediate level). Or, if you did very well in English in your Abitur, you may be around B2/C1 (ready for an upper-intermediate/advanced course).
