Target group
This workshop has been designed for university staff who teach courses in English
Workshop facilitators
Gregg Dubow and Susanne Gundermann
Workshop concept
- This participant centered workshop aims to allow a small group of participants to practice and fine-tune skills for student interaction in English. Please bring your notebook and teaching material (PP slides/handouts) for the exercise you wish to conduct.
- Once you have signed up, you will receive some useful language material for the workshop (e.g. typical phrases and strategies for handling questions and encouraging student participation).
- The first day includes a review of language material received and the set up for the second day.
- The second day begins with a listening comprehension exercise where you will learn more about non-native English accents. Thereafter, each participant actively conducts one of his/her teaching exercises (e.g. interactive lecture, group discussion) with the participants for about 20 minutes and then receives immediate language feedback (e.g. pronunciation, accurate vocabulary, communicative strategies, phrases for student interaction).
- After lunch, you will have time to prepare another brief exercise and apply some language and strategies covered during the workshop.
- This workshop can be followed up with a classroom observation to gain a more comprehensive and authentic impression of your teaching in English.
