Teaching in English - Your lecture
Workshop facilitator
Gregg Dubow
Concept
- This participant centered workshop allows a small group of participants to practice and fine-tune lectures given in English. Please bring material (PP slides/handouts) from one of your lectures you have already given or a lecture you plan on giving in the future.
- Once you have signed up, you will receive some typical lecturing language material (e.g. typical phrases for transitioning, outlining, highlighting, referring to graphs, handling questions, etc.).
- During the workshop, each participant will give a 15 minute mini-lecture and receive immediate feedback from the both the facilitator as well as from other participants.
- The last part of the workshop will provide participants an opportunity to reflect on the feedback received and consider new strategies and approaches for future lectures given in English.
- Each participant has the option to have his/her mini-lecture video-recorded. Approximately one week after the workshop, he/she will receive detailed feedback on language use (e.g. pronunciation, accurate vocabulary, use of lecturing phrases)
- This workshop can be followed up with a classroom observation to gain a more comprehensive impression of your teaching in English.
